South Holland District Council is excited to announce that Spalding town centre will host its annual Christmas celebration and light-switch on event on Friday 28 November from 4pm to 8pm.

The evening will be full of festive fun for all ages, visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities across the town centre including seasonal stalls, a food court, children’s rides, craft activities, face painting, and street entertainment.

Stalls and rides will be located in Sheep Market car park and Market Place, while Hall Place will host the Christmas tree, stage and more festive activities. Traditional sideshow stalls and craft activities will be set up outside Lloyds Bank.

The main stage in Hall Place will feature live entertainment from local schools, singers, and the Polka Dot Pantomime cast performing Rapunzel with Adam Patman as compere.

Some shops in the town centre are also set to extend their opening hours on the night, giving visitors the chance to do get the Christmas shopping done early.

A fancy dress competition is due to take place at the main stage at 6:50pm. Meanwhile, Santa’s Grotto will be making a stop in the Lincolnshire Co-op Travel building, opposite the Pied Calf.

The Christmas light switch-on itself will take place at 7:15pm, carried out by the lucky winner of the Fancy Dress Competition and Santa himself, followed by a Christmas singalong led by Amber Sinclair. The event will finish at 8pm.

Ahead of the event, a shop window dressing competition will also be held, with judging taking place on Tuesday 25 November and led by Councillor Gary Taylor, Chairlady Jan Whitbourn, and Sarah Fletcher, BID Manager.

Councillor Gary Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Community Development said: “The Spalding Christmas Celebration is always a real highlight of the year.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for families, friends, and visitors to come together and enjoy the start of the festive season.

“I’d like encourage everyone to come down and join us for an evening of entertainment, food, and fun as we light up the town for Christmas.”
