Special Lincolnshire Day market set for Grimsby Town Centre to celebrate Lincolnshire Day

A special Lincolnshire Day market will take place for residents and visitors to enjoy in the heart of Grimsby Town Centre at Riverhead Square, on Thursday 1 October between 9am and 3pm.

Visitors can browse stalls offering fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, crafts and much more. The market provides an opportunity to meet local producers, learn about the products on offer and enjoy the quality and variety that local businesses bring to the community. Whether you’re looking for ingredients for a family meal or to find a special gift for someone, come and shop local, support independent businesses and soak up the atmosphere.

Residents in Lincolnshire have been celebrating Lincolnshire Day on 1 October each year since 2006. The day was originally introduced to mark the anniversary of the Lincolnshire Upraising, a significant event in the county’s history. In 1536, during the reign of King Henry VIII, many people in Lincolnshire joined together to oppose the kings plan to change their church. This shows that Lincolnshire has a long history of people standing up for what they believe in.

We celebrate Lincolnshire Day to educate locals and visitors to the area about the county’s history and remember those who lost their lives during the Lincolnshire Uprising. It’s also a great way to celebrate what Lincolnshire has to offer, from its local produce to its historic attractions.

Did you know the Lincolnshire flag was designed in 2005 by Michelle Andrews? The flag features four colours, each holding significant meaning.

• Green: To symbolise Lincolnshire’s fertile fields and beautiful countryside.
• Blue: Representing the sea and waterways that border the county.
• Yellow: To reflect the golden crops that grow on Lincolnshire’s agricultural fields.
• Red: Featuring the fleur-de-lis which is the official symbol of the City of Lincoln.
