There are several opportunities this week to learn more about the next phase of plans to revitalise Grimsby Town Centre and to share your views. With significant redevelopment already underway - and Grimsby bidding to become UK Town of Culture 2028 - now is the ideal time to get involved.

Residents can complete the online consultation (below) until Monday 6 April 2026, or speak to the team in person here:

  • Friday 20 March, 10am–3pm – Freshney Place Shopping Centre
  • Saturday 21 March, 10am–3pm – Grimsby Minster (as part of Love Grimsby)
  • Tuesday 24 March, 10am–2pm – Centre4, Wootton Road, Grimsby

The original Town Centre Masterplan, published in 2020, set out a community‑informed vision that has since helped secure substantial investment. The Council is now updating the plan to guide development through to 2040 and is asking the public to help shape the next stage.

An interactive online platform allows people to explore how they use the town centre, how they travel, and what future improvements they would like to see. Short questions appear throughout, with a survey at the end. Feedback will be used to understand local priorities and strengthen future funding bids.

What’s Already Been Delivered

Freshney Place - Work is progressing on a new cinema, food hall and revitalised market, complementing the £10m Community Diagnostic Centre.

St James’ Square – The Hive has been upgraded into a modern business hub, and the Square has been enhanced with new planting, lighting and paving.

Horizon Youth Zone - Now open in the restored West Haven Maltings and Migar House, offering a high-quality space for young people while preserving heritage.

Riverhead Square - Improved public space and bridge design have created a safer, more accessible area. The new CARE community hub is now open.

Alexandra Dock - Construction has started on 120 new waterfront homes, bringing high‑quality, affordable housing into the town centre.

Transport Hub - Following demolition and site clearance, work will deliver a central, green transport interchange with improved links and new amenities.

Next Steps

The Council is seeking views on how best to connect and enhance three key areas:

  • Riverhead and Garth Lane - Extending the town centre towards the water, creating new public spaces and commercial opportunities near the transport hub.
  • St James and Freshney - Supporting business growth and expanding leisure and cultural activity, while celebrating heritage.
  • Alexandra Dockside - Developing new homes, green spaces and community facilities, and improving access to the water for culture, sport and events.

Strengthening these links aims to create a more accessible, vibrant and inclusive town centre with space for businesses to grow, improved services and welcoming public areas.
