Grimsthorpe Castle’s Free Entry Weekend Draws Record Crowds, Boosting Local Tourism and Business

Grimsthorpe Castle welcomed record-breaking numbers over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, with  nearly 7,000 visitors exploring the Castle and more than 9,000 enjoying the parkland and gardens across two days. 

 

The free-entry event was designed to kick off the 2025 season in style - and it certainly delivered.  Hundreds of visitors took to social media to share glowing reviews, including Rachel Meadows: “It was  amazing, it really was huge - well done to everyone!” and Nicola Eve: “We had a great afternoon, thank you for your generosity. It was well organised and welcoming.” 

 

Lucie VonCarthy, Public Access Lead at Grimsthorpe Castle, said: 

 

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response. It was fantastic to welcome so many visitors, many of  whom were discovering Grimsthorpe for the first time. Huge thanks to our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and partners who worked tirelessly to make it all happen. We’re also delighted to see the  positive impact on local businesses – it’s wonderful to be part of Lincolnshire’s vibrant visitor economy.” 

 

The event provided a welcome boost to local enterprises. Amy Meadows, owner of The March Hare Tea  Trailer, commented: 

 

“We were incredibly busy all weekend - serving record numbers of visitors. It was brilliant to see new faces and lots of families enjoying themselves. Our new venison baps using meat from the estate were one of the most popular items on the menu!” 

 

 

Grimsthorpe’s newly opened Farm Shop also reported a surge in customers, with visitors keen to pick up  local produce and giftware. Nearby pubs and restaurants saw an uplift too, with many visitors rounding  off their day with a traditional Sunday roast. 

 

Ahead of the season, Grimsthorpe invested in refurbishing its much-loved Adventure Playground, laying  80m³ of fresh woodchip and installing new swings - a hit with families over the weekend.
