The Dynamic Understanding of the Natural Environment (DUNE) project aims to improve the understanding of the coastline around Cleethorpes and see how it can be preserved for generations to come.

The project looks specifically at the natural salt marsh and sand dune environments of Cleethorpes on the south bank of the Humber Estuary, which are of internationally significant ecological importance for various habitats and species. The site has several nature conservation designations including being a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

DUNE will help inform the public and give people more opportunity to enjoy the amenities the coastline has in a safe and respectful way. To do that, the Council are asking residents for their views on accessibility, current understanding and what improvements they would like to see to the area.

This includes numerous locations from the salt marsh to the Boating Lake. It’s hoped this information can provide greater understanding of the area’s environment and encourage the use of other open spaces for the residents and visitors as the project continues.

Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to let us know what they understand about the Cleethorpes coastline, but also what they think will improve it.

“Areas like the salt marsh, the SSSI and the Boating Lake are important locations for those who come to live, visit or work in Cleethorpes. The DUNE project is essential in developing all of this, but it needs your help to ensure the right outcome.”
