Changes to where dogs can and cannot be walked on Cleethorpes beach will soon come into effect.

As of Good Friday, 18 April, dogs are not allowed onto the beach between the Wonderland Rock Groyne and Cleethorpes Leisure Centre. Dogs are welcome to visit the stretch of beach between Cleethorpes Leisure Centre and the Humberston Fitties all year round.

This rule is in effect until Tuesday, 30 September, after which dogs are allowed to be walked on the entirety of the beach. Those found not to be adhering to the rules will be fined.

Warning signs about the fines can be found along the promenade and at beach entrances in the restricted area. Wherever you take your dog, remember to carry a dog poo bag and pick up after them. Owners who breach this Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) will be fined £100.

PSPOs are put in place to  with persistent anti-social behaviour in a local area that is detrimental to the community’s quality of life. They do so by imposing conditions on the use of that area to ensure everyone can use and enjoy public spaces without experiencing nuisance and annoyance.

The PSPO also prohibits visitors to the Resort starting fires on the beach or having barbecues. Recently, there have been reports of structures appearing on the beach that look to be the start of bonfires.

Visitors and residents are reminded that our beach is a special place, with incredibly sensitive habitats for wildlife, protected by law, and it’s up to all of us to look after it. Therefore, it is prohibited to build bonfires, have barbeques on the beach, or leave any burning embers on the sand.

Anyone found not to be respecting this environment will be subject to a fine for breaching the PSPO.

Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: “We ask all residents to remember the PSPOs surrounding Cleethorpes beach whilst enjoying our amazing landscape.

“It’s a delight to see pet owners using the beach. However, as we enter the warmer months and see an influx of visitors to the resort, we want to make sure everyone has an area they can enjoy, whether that be dog owners or beach goers.

“Bonfires or using barbecues, are not permitted so we ask you to refrain from doing so and to respect the wonderful natural landscape that is Cleethorpes sea front.”
