When they’re gone, they’re gone! St Hugh’s Hospital family fun run gives away 250 free places

Get the family out for some free fun run excitement for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend.

Enjoy the buzz of a fantastic atmosphere in People’s Park where there will be activities, stalls and music. Participants get to finish in the same place as the much-loved Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k as they celebrate at the finish line.

The St Hugh’s Hospital family fun run, which takes place at the same time as the much-loved 10k race at 9am on Sunday 5 June, is a 1km route around People’s Park in Grimsby. Take a look at the route here: www.plotaroute.com/route/1648777

St Hugh’s Hospital, in partnership with race organiser Tape2Tape, will be giving away 250 free places for their fun run. Once these places have gone, families can benefit from a reduced entry fee of £2.50 per person (original price, £5).

Families can walk, run, skip, stroll and even roll their way to the finish line. All finishers will receive a medal, sweets and a drink.

Gary Allington, Facilities Manager and Community Officer at St Hugh’s Hospital, said: “As ever, St Hugh’s Hospital is proud to sponsor the Family Fun Run. It’s great that we can once more enjoy being outdoors together, raising money for such vital causes in our community.

“Part of our ethos at St Hugh’s is about encouraging people of all ages to get active and see the benefits that has to health.

“It’s proven that running and jogging has many positive effects to our bodies, as well as our mental well-being. This type of exercise helps to build strong bones and strengthen muscles, it burns calories and can help maintain a healthy weight, and any activity that helps to improve cardiovascular fitness is great.

“The brilliant thing about the fun run is that it gives families the chance to participate together, as a group. Getting children and young people involved in events like this can lead to a lifetime of participation and good health and well-being habits.

“The route isn’t as long as the Great Grimsby 10K, so it’s a good place to start if you’ve never done any running or jogging before. You complete it at your own pace, in your own time, at whatever speed you feel comfortable with. It’s also ideal for the opposite – those who might have competed in road races over the years and are now looking for something to do with the grandchildren.

“With 250 free places up for grabs – and a medal for finishers, too – this is all about participation, community, and togetherness… and a fun day out raising cash for charities who need support more than ever following the pandemic. We look forward to seeing you there!”

Neil Pattison, Tape2Tape race director, said: “Thanks to the kind support of St Hugh’s Hospital, we are able to offer out free entries to the first 250 people to sign up for the fun run. We are looking forward to seeing so many people taking part in the event and having a wonderful time on Jubilee weekend.”

Don’t forget, there’s still time to sign up to the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k.

People can sign up at www.greatgrimsby10k.com for £22 or £20 for affiliated running club members. Entry includes a t-shirt and medal.

Hundreds of volunteering opportunities are also created for local people, making the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K much more than a race. Volunteers are critical for this event, so if you want to join the race crew, email volunteers@tape2tape.co.uk or sign up at www.tape2tape.co.uk/volunteer.

Along with headline sponsor Ørsted, this year’s 10k event will be sponsored by North East Lincolnshire Council, Young’s, TIRU – Paprec Energies, EQUANS, NAViGO, JemBuild, Lincolnshire Co-op, myenergi , Freshney Place and St Hugh’s Hospital.

The seven chosen local charities for 2022’s event are: OnSide Youth Zone, Harbour Place, A Platform To Talk, The Gardiner Hill Project (part of NAViGO), Mind, Doorstep and RNLI.
