The future of St James Square and St James House – your chance to find out more

Two drop-in sessions will be held on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 February for people who want to find out more and give their views on the future development and plans for the St James Square area of Grimsby town centre.

The project is part funded by £1.8m from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s Growth Deals with Government.

St James Square and St James House are key features in the town centre and part of the town’s rich heritage.

Together with the historic Grimsby Minster and its surrounding buildings they create a community space which is rich in heritage and culture and gives green open space in the centre of town.

The project to improve this area is part of the Greater Grimsby Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) and aims to create a vibrant community area that complements Grimsby Minster’s role as a heritage and arts centre.

There are two phases to the project and the first phase will focus on improving the public space and area in St James Square. Phase two will focus on the re-development of St James House.

The first phase of the project asks for people’s views on two proposed options which are based on the needs of existing and potential users of the square.

The feedback will then be considered as part of the evaluation for the final design.

The two sessions will be held at Grimsby Minster in the foyer of the north entrance on the following dates:

  • Friday 1 Feb, 4.30-7pm
  • Saturday 2 Feb, 9.30am – 1pm

Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “There are lots of changes to the centre of Grimsby on the cards coming in the next few years. Around the Minster, we want to make a really attractive, useable space so that we can encourage people to use the town centre at all times of the day.”

Further information can also be found online at www.investnel.co.uk/grimsbytowncentre.

The survey will open on Friday 1 Feb and will close on Sunday 10 Feb.
