Start a New Chapter – Libraries Fines Amnesty

“YOU forget, we forgive” is the message from Lincs Inspire Libraries over the coming weeks, as borrowers with overdue items are given an opportunity to waive any fines and start using their local library again.

From July 18 to August 7, overdue items can be returned to CleethorpesGrimsbyImmingham or Waltham Libraries, with fines cleared and a new library card issued free of charge.

The amnesty also applies to borrowers with outstanding fines with no items on loan, who can have their memberships reactivated at no cost. Proof of name and address will be needed for those who haven’t used the services for some time.

Derek O’Connell, Development Manager, Lincs Inspire Libraries said:

“We hope the amnesty will help us reconnect with borrowers. It doesn’t matter how long items have been on loan, or if they are in poor condition, this is a chance to clear all fines and start afresh. We want everyone to benefit from the fantastic resources we have to offer!”

To date, Lincs Inspire Libraries have 4,265 borrowers and over 15,580 items overdue. Overdue book fines are currently charged at 20 pence per day, up to a maximum of ten pounds, excluding those under the age of 16, those over the age of 65 and those registered blind or partially sighted.

Library members can also access a range of online resources free of charge, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers.
