Meteoric growth for 1-year-old Wild Jacks

There are not many businesses that go from a standing start to a £2.7M turnover within their first 12 months. However, since the foundation of Wild Jacks last November, Lincolnshire born and bred owners Stuart & Joanna Hancock have absolutely achieved that and have successfully taken on Welbournes Bakery, Odlings Butchers, and J H Starbuck Bakery along the way!

Wild Jacks is now officially one-year-old and the growing team and wider community certainly have a lot to celebrate.

“We are passionate about local produce and securing and promoting these long standing, third generation family businesses into the future. We are saving brand names and promoting local products such as our Welbournes plum loaf, which is a specialty within Lincolnshire. These delicious local products are loved by the community; they are far too precious to let go,” explains owner, Stuart Hancock.

“Our acquisition strategy allows us to continue to grow and expand with our greater production capacity to reach and service a wider audience but crucially, our core business remains in Lincolnshire,” adds Stuart.

Since its inception, Wild Jacks has:

  • Acquired three long-standing family businesses.
  • Developed a new retail outlet – Welbournes Wine & Deli, offering consumers a wide range of wines and spirits as well as access to fantastic cheeses, charcuterie, olives, and snacks.
  • Sourced new, local suppliers, from farmers within the community to produce growers from the Lincolnshire Fens to local distilleries.
  • Increased their wholesale offering – including securing a contract for a school meals provider supplying over 40 schools throughout Lincolnshire as well as supplying to cafes, restaurants, pubs, schools, farm shops, etc.
  • Undertaken a significant refurbishment project for their Navenby production facility, investing c.£200K in the local community.
  • Focused on reducing and saving food miles by using local products and ingredients and offering local delivery or click & collect options.
  • Launched a new e-commerce platform – www.wild-jacks.com offering customers the opportunity to access the entirety of their fantastic array of locally sourced and sustainably produced range of food and drink.
  • Launched Smoke – an event catering service offering catering for both private and corporate functions.
  • Implemented opportunities to train apprentices, initially in their accounts team, but plans to expand this scheme in the new year will cover traditional skills such as butchery and bakery as well as other areas such as marketing and social media.

‘Wild Jacks supplies a fantastic range of sustainably produced local products via our varied supply and retail outlets. For example, we source our meat from the local farmers, with our Lincolnshire Red cattle travelling only a few miles before reaching our butchers in Navenby. We are passionate about the environmental aspect of food production and supply and are confident that all our products are sustainability delivered to the end consumer with minimal food miles,” adds Stuart.

Future plans

Stuart, Joanna and the Wild Jacks team plan to build on the solid base that has been established over the last year and to evolve their ethos and reach a wider audience through their newly launched online platform – www.wild-jacks.com. They are working towards achieving higher accreditations throughout their businesses as they continually strive to provide the highest quality to their customers.

“Wild Jacks is constantly evolving and moving forward which is key to our growth strategy and success. We will consider all opportunities as they arise to maximise benefit for our customers as well as ourselves. At the heart of our business lies our belief in our quality products and brands, and not forgetting our amazing staff who create the fabulous products we deliver throughout the county every day.”
