Lincolnshire Haulage Firm Donates £1,000 Winnings to Charity

Boston-based haulier George H Kime & Co Ltd has split its £1,000 winnings from a national lottery for haulage firms between two charities, The Butterfly Hospice Trust in Boston and Lincolnshire Action Trust in Lincoln.

Boston-based haulier George H Kime & Co Ltd has given an early Christmas present to two Lincolnshire charities after winning £1,000 on a national lottery for haulage firms.

The firm has split its winnings between The Butterfly Hospice Trust in Boston and Lincolnshire Action Trust in Lincoln.

George Kime is a transport, storage and distribution company which provides logistical solutions for businesses of all sizes, from sole traders to blue chip companies.

It is part of a palletised freight distribution network of 130 hauliers throughout the UK and Ireland called The Pallet Network.

Members of the network pay a contribution towards a syndicate which is drawn monthly. The prize is usually £1,000 and the winning haulier is expected to choose a worthy charity or project to donate the winnings to.

Nigel Kime, Managing Director at George H Kime and Co Ltd, said: “We chose the Young Oasis project at Lincolnshire Action Trust because of the amazing work it does for young people who are in such unfortunate situations.

“We so often take things for granted in life, but my goodness there are people so near to us that are suffering in so many different ways. That’s why we decided to share the winnings by choosing a charity in Lincoln as well as Boston, as we have depots located throughout Lincolnshire.”

Lincolnshire Action Trust works with people in the criminal justice system to reduce re-offending and provide additional support for their families and dependents, both during their time in prison and following their release.

The charity’s Young Oasis project is currently providing support, guidance and encouragement for over 30 young people in Lincolnshire aged five to 18 years who are affected by a family member using drugs or alcohol.

“On behalf of Lincolnshire Action Trust and the Young Oasis Team we would like to thank Nigel for his very kind donation,” said Kim Thompson, Senior Practitioner at Young Oasis.

“This donation will allow us to provide outings and activities to even more children and young people in Lincolnshire who are affected by a loved one’s substance use.

“It will give the children and young people an opportunity to choose how they would like to spend some of their time during the holidays, meet others who may be in a similar situation and most importantly, have fun!”

The Butterfly Hospice Trust unit in Boston provides doctors, nurses, therapists, and spiritual support for end-of-life care. The trust aims to provide personalised care 24 hours a day to improve an individual’s quality of life and relieve symptoms such as breathlessness and pain.

Nigel added: “We chose to support The Butterfly Hospice Trust as it is very close to the hearts of many local people in the Boston area, and many will know of loved ones who have gone to the hospice when they have been seriously ill and needed that extra special care.’’

Both charities are working tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciate any support that can be offered at this difficult time.
