‘S for Saltmarsh’ invites people to join Coastal Ranger, Josh Forrester, on a guided nature walk through some of the area’s coastal environments, collecting various items to be used in the following workshop.
Attendees will use the items and materials collected on the walk to produce designs through a process called mono-printing. These will ultimately help create part of a structure in the regenerated Pier Gardens.
As part of the plans, Hemingway Designs have created a concept of sculptures spelling out Cleethorpes, with each letter being placed around the gardens themselves. It’s hoped they will encourage people to explore and interact with the area whilst visiting Cleethorpes.
Each element will encapsulate different themes around the resort with the S representing the Saltmarshes - a rare and internationally important habitat for wildlife.
The saltmarsh at Cleethorpes is a dynamic and diverse place. This coastal wetland provides essential feeding and roosting habitat for many birds as well as forming a natural flood defence, improving water quality and capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Whilst embodying all this, the structure will act as a viewing spot across the estuary to observe birds and wildlife whilst also incorporating a range of plants and trees to emphasise the natural aspect of the piece.
Some of the letters incorporate the Victorian heritage of the area with others forming elements of the skate facility that will make up part of the regeneration.
The event, to be held on Thursday, 30 October, is just one example of how the Council are ensuring the public have an input into the regeneration of Cleethorpes.
Starting at 10am, those wishing to attend are asked to sign up to the event by visiting https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/s-is-for-saltmarsh-a-guided-nature-walk-and-design-workshop-tickets-1794621594499
Councillor Philip Jackson, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration, Devolution and Skills, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to have their say on the regeneration of Cleethorpes.
“Working alongside the public, we can make sure the end result is one everyone wants. This is an exciting time for North East Lincolnshire and I cannot wait to see the final designs.”
He added: “The Council are committed to creating a new landscape in both Grimsby and Cleethorpes that will ensure a successful future for the borough and we’re thrilled to be able to bring the public along with us on this journey.”
