Get rid of those Autumnal blues and go see what wildlife you can find on a nature walk with Coastal Ranger.

Join Josh Forrester, Coastal Ranger with the Council and their DUNE Project (funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund), for a series of guided nature walks around Cleethorpes Local Nature Reserve and the surrounding areas. These seasonal walks offer a chance to explore the rich wildlife of the Humber Estuary during one of its most important times of year.

Autumn and Winter brings thousands of birds, such as waders and wildfowl, to the coastline, resting and feeding in preparation for their long migratory journeys. With Josh as your guide, you’ll learn about the birds and other wildlife that rely on our estuary for survival.

You’ll have the chance to see overwintering ducks, flocks of wading birds and groups of geese within the setting of Cleethorpes’ coastal landscape.

From September to March, Josh will be hosting seven events starting from the Leisure Centre, Boating Lake and Country Park. However, spaces are limited with only 12 people per tour so be sure to book your place by visiting https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/nelc-ecology-116660912741

Should you be joining one of the walks, Josh asks that you bring a pair of binoculars and wear weather-appropriate clothing. Those attending are also reminded that the walks may include uneven and unpaved surfaces, which could present challenges for those with limited mobility or using mobility aids. If you have specific accessibility needs, feel free to get in touch before booking so we can advise on suitability by emailing  DUNEproject@nelincs.gov.uk.

“I’m really looking forward to putting on these events,” said Josh.

“Autumn and Winter are often times when people may think wildlife is not as interesting or visible, but that’s far from the truth. These walks will show people exactly what’s on their doorstep and I dare say a few may be surprised at the wonderful diversity on offer here.”

Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, added: “Josh and the ecology team are a real asset to helping residents understand more about the environment that they live next to.

“These walks are a great way to highlight what the DUNE project is all about and can hopefully provide some insight into what Cleethorpes needs to improve and become an even better resort.”
