Sunday 2 June will see thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators take to the streets of Grimsby for the ninth running of the awesome Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k.

Around 2,500 runners will be taking to the course from 9am, starting at Grimsby Town Hall, heading along Scartho Road, Louth Road, and Peaks Parkway, before turning onto Welholme Road to finish in the scenic People’s Park.

Whether you’re cheering on family, friends or live along the race route and want to get out on your doorstep, your support goes a long way.

The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is one of the biggest sporting events for the area, attracting runners from all over the country.

The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities. It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being.

Roads in the area will be closed for part of Sunday morning. Advance warning signs have been in place along the route since early-May. See the full route at www.plotaroute.com/route/910162.

If you are travelling to the race, please be aware of ongoing roadworks on the A180. Abbey Walk Multi-Storey Car Park is currently closed.

Road closure information
The council has granted a temporary road closure notice for the route and a traffic management company has been hired to keep the route safe.

  • Streets around Grimsby Town Hall closed 6.30am to 9:30am
  • Race route closed from 8am
  • Roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so
  • Race route up to 2km open from 9:40am
  • Race route up to 6km open from 10am
  • All roads open by 11:45am

Scartho Top and surrounding streets
There will be no access/egress at Scartho Top from Matthew Telford Way. There will however be a staffed contraflow system on Pelham Avenue allowing traffic to use Waltham Road. Louth Road will be closed.

Wintringham Road
Contraflow including temporary removal of one way at Wintringham Road East to allow access/egress onto Hainton Avenue. This is for Wintringham Road, Farebrother Street, Legsby Avenue, Ainslie Street, Lambert Road, Ludford Street, Abbey Drive East, Lampton Grove, St Olafs Grove, Abbots Way. Please note it will not be possible to cross over Welholme Road from Peaks Parkway through to Bargate

Louth Road roundabout/Becklands estate
Access/egress maintained towards Tollbar roundabout.

Louth Road
Anyone wishing to leave Louth Road is advised to park up in Southfield Avenue prior to 8am. This will allow you to turn left onto Waltham Road. All streets that connect to a closure with no other access will be closed by default.

Emergency Services
Emergency services will not be affected, and a plan is in place. Hospital managers and East Midlands Ambulance Service also have a plan in place so that access to the hospital is maintained at all times. Any members of the public wishing to access the hospital during the road closures can do so via Second Avenue. All hospital department heads have been advised of the road closures so they can communicate plans to anyone with a pre-arranged appointment.

Be kind
You will see lots of people in hi-vis jackets at all road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. They will do their best to keep you updated about what is happening and where feasible, give alternate routes to assist you. The race organiser asks that you are kind and respectful.

On behalf of everyone supporting the race, Tape2Tape apologise for any inconvenience caused by the road closures.

The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities. It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being,” said Neil and Nicola Pattison, race directors at Tape2Tape.
“As always, we would like to thank everyone for their patience while various road closures are in place to keep our runners safe. You must not drive onto the race route as you will potentially be putting the runners, volunteers, of which many children will be helping out, as well as yourself at risk.”

Visit www.greatgrimsby10k.com for more detailed information on the closures. If you have any questions, email info@tape2tape.co.uk or call (01472) 824894 and leave a message if they don’t pick up.
