Organised by Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP) and Oasis Hub South, North East Lincolnshire Council are working in partnership to help make the day a success.
On Tuesday, 8 April, there will be 11 skips spread across the neighbourhood for residents to deposit and recycle a range of waste and materials. From wood to metal, there will be the opportunity to get rid of any unwanted items whilst helping the planet out at the same time.
From 10am-2pm, skips will be supervised by various sponsors who will be monitoring the skips as well as informing people about their organisation. Fostering NEL will be hosting a skip on the day with representatives from the team there to offer advice and guidance about how you can get involved with fostering in North East Lincolnshire.
A litter pick will also be taking place on the day led by the Church Community. Children will have the chance to get an Easter egg by bringing a bag of litter to a skip in exchange for a token which can be swapped for a chocolate treat at the Oasis community space on Sutcliffe Avenue.
Bikes will be collected by Re-Volution and re-purposed through their community bike project. Other resources such as paint will also be saved from going to waste and put to good use in the community.
The event will help to tackle issues such as fly-tipping and littering, whilst also educating residents on how they can best recycle their unwanted items.
Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, said: “This is an amazing initiative that we are thrilled to be able to be a part of.
“The work done by LHP and Oasis Hub is nothing short of fantastic. Educating residents of North East Lincolnshire on the benefits of recycling is something we are passionate about.
“The Council aims to be as sustainable as possible, events like this only benefit this ideal and get us closer to our goal of becoming a Net Zero borough.”
Michelle Donner, Oasis Community Leader, added : "It’s great to see so many local people involved with this project and this event has come from the residents themselves. We are grateful to all the residents and sponsors for supporting the event.”
Emma Coxon, Anti-Social Behaviour Officer at LHP, said: “Following the launch of LHP's Neighbourhood Action Plans, this event shows what can be achieved when a community and its partners come together to benefit the neighbourhood. We really want to make a difference in our communities, listening and acting on what residents tell us they need.”
