With just over a week to go to the National Armed Forces weekend in Cleethorpes, here’s the latest run down of events.

Alex Baxter, from the Armed Forces Major Events Team, said: “The event takes a year to pull together, and we work, as volunteers, to do this on behalf of the Armed Forces Community and the Borough. This is the biggest free event on the east coast, and we’re proud, as a team, to bring this together for people to celebrate our whole armed forces community, past and present, and their families, for the work they do and continue to do in the service of our nation.”

There’s lots of things happening throughout the resort, with plenty for everyone to see, from Meridian Showground to the Pier!

Meridian Park will host the military vehicle displays, mounted display and lots for all ages (available to see all weekend from Friday to Sunday).

The Armed Forces Community Carnival will be on Friday from 6pm as part of the whole weekend event.

On Saturday, don’t be late if you want to watch this year’s wonderful Armed Forces Parade – it’s in two parts this year – a vehicle parade at 11am and the parade of serving military, cadets and veterans starts at the much earlier time of 11.30am.

Gavin Marshall, from the Armed Forces Major Events Team, said: “The parade times have been moved to accommodate the flying activity. When assets such as the Red Arrows are allocated to events, they are on their timetable, as they have to go to other events on the same day. Event organisers have to fit in around that timetable, which is why the parade has had to be brought forward.”

Flying activity will be centred around Ross Castle, and will be happening on Saturday and Sunday only.

Also at the event are traders, entertainment on stage, the Phillips66 Big Wheel at the leisure centre, funfairs, and lots of things for children to do!

The current day-by-day list of activity. Please note, this is subject to change – keep up to date with latest information on our website, www.afmet.co.uk before the weekend, or on our Facebook page, (search for Armed Forces Cleethorpes), during the weekend.
