Thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers will hit the streets of Grimsby on Sunday 1 June for the tenth anniversary Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K and Family Fun Run.

It’s an extra-special event this year as the race celebrates its tenth birthday and race organisers Tape2Tape, working with headline sponsors Ørsted are inviting runners and joggers of all abilities to take part.

Visit www.tape2tape.co.uk to secure your place and be part of this magnificent town centre event.

It’s a double celebration for the race as Ørsted, who operate the largest offshore wind operations and maintenance base in the world right here in Great Grimsby, have signed up as headline sponsors for another three years.

Lauren Little, senior stakeholder advisor at Ørsted said:

“We’re so happy to be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k. Over the past decade, we’ve seen the race grow from strength to strength, attracting not only national runners, but inspiring people new to running to have a go. The flat route goes around the town ending up with a big celebration in People’s Park, the heart of the town we run our largest operations out of. It makes me very honoured to be a born and bred Grimbarian.”

Since the first race in 2016, organisers estimate that around 27,000 people have collectively run 270,000km (167,400 miles) – that’s more than halfway to the Moon or more than six times around the Earth.

The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is much more than a race as it raises thousands of pounds for charities each year and creates hundreds of volunteering opportunities.

Race directors, Neil and Nicola Pattison, said:

“We’re so proud of this race, of everyone who plays a part in making it happen and everyone who has taken part.

“Together we’ve come along way since the very first race in 2016. A lot of that is down to the incredible support we have from our sponsors, especially our headline sponsor Ørsted. They’ve been part of this race since day one and we are thrilled to have Ørsted on board for another three years.

“We estimate we’ve inspired around 27,500 people to run this stunning 10km circuit over the last nine years. Running is so good for your physical and mental wellbeing and we’re passionate about encouraging people to be active and move more, whatever their ability.

“Likewise, volunteering is also hugely rewarding and makes you feel good about yourself, your community and the place where you live. We’ve worked with thousands of volunteers over the years and this event simply would not happen without them.

“We’re grateful to everyone who has made this event so special and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on 1 June.”

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Cllr Steve Beasant, added:

“The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is an amazing community event, and it hard to believe that this years race will mark 10 years, since the 10K started. There is always a great atmosphere at the event, and the public always cheer on and support the runners.

“I will be running in my sixth 10k, and knowing that it is the 10th Anniversary of the race; it is bound to something special, but what makes the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k something special is the amount of donations that have helped many local charities.”

Volunteers

Volunteers are crucial for this event. If you would like to join the race crew, email volunteers@tape2tape.co.uk or sign up at www.tape2tape.co.uk/volunteer.

Sponsors and charity partners

Along with headline sponsor Ørsted, this year’s event will be sponsored by North East Lincolnshire Council, Equans, Illumina Diagnostics, New Medika, A P Robinson, John Roe Toyota and Navigo.

The seven chosen charities this year are Harbour Place, A Platform to Talk, COPS (Care of Police Survivors) St Andrews Hospice, Linkage Community Trust, Horizon Youth Zone and the Grimsby Rotary Club.

A £1 donation is made from every race entry into a fund shared between the event’s charity partners.

Any local business who would like to support the event in some way can get in touch

at nicola@tape2tape.co.uk.

Litter-free

Always striving to be an environmentally friendly and litter-free race, there will again be a recycling tent in the centre of the grass at People’s Park to enable race organiser Tape2Tape to recycle as much as possible during the event.

On the race route, we will be using only recyclable paper cups that will be collected and recycled by North East Lincolnshire Council’s street cleansing team.
