Grimsby Town Hall will host an event later this month to showcase opportunities on offer for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, helping them turn their hand to paid work.

Supported internship opportunities have been offered in North East Lincolnshire for three years by the Council, Humberside Police, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and other organisations.

The internships offer young people who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) a chance to gain real life work experience.

Lasting one academic year, 28 young people have already benefitted from the supported internship programme.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for children and education at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“This is a great programme for some of our young people who might otherwise struggle to find employment opportunities.

“Open to young people aged 18 to 24 who are interested in working at least 16-hours per week, the programme gives real experience of working with some of the largest employers in the area.

“I’d encourage anyone meeting the criteria to come along to the open day to find out more.”

The open day will take place at Grimsby Town Hall on Thursday 30th January 2025 from 4pm to 6pm.

To book a place at the open day, email askannie@nelincs.gov.uk.

You can apply for a Supported Internship if:

  • You want to gain experience to be able to apply for a job.

  • You have the desire to achieve employment of at least 16 hours per week.

  • You are aged between 18 and 24.

  • You have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The programme lasts one academic year, working Monday to Friday and you will complete three different rotations at the host business.
