Sunday 1 June will see thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators take to the streets of Grimsby for the tenth anniversary of the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k.

Around 3,000 runners will hit the course from 9am, starting at Grimsby Town Hall, heading along Scartho Road, Louth Road, and Peaks Parkway, before turning onto Welholme Road to finish in the scenic People’s Park.

Whether you’re cheering on family, friends or live along the race route and want to get out on your doorstep, your support goes a long way.

If you will be affected by the road closures that the popular event brings, why not take the opportunity to celebrate the race’s tenth birthday and cheer on the runners with your neighbours?

Those living along the race route often come together to chat, share food and have fun. Why not cook up a full English fry-up or bacon bun to enjoy in your front garden? Or pop outside with a cup of tea to talk with your neighbours.

There’ll be plenty to do at People’s Park too as it is home to the finish line of the race, so get your friends and family together for the festivities it has to offer.

It’s not too late to enter the 10k or the Family Fun Run or register as a volunteer. Visit www.greatgrimsby10k.com for details.

Be kind

You will see lots of people in hi-vis jackets at all road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. They will do their best to keep you updated about what is happening and where feasible, give alternate routes to assist you. The race organiser asks that you are kind and respectful.

On behalf of everyone supporting the race, Tape2Tape apologise for any inconvenience caused by the road closures. Neil and Nicola Pattison, race directors at Tape2Tape, said:

“The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is one of the biggest sporting events for the area, attracting runners from all over the country.

“The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities.

“It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being,

“As always, we would like to thank everyone for their patience while various road closures are in place to keep our runners safe. You must not drive onto the race route as you will potentially be putting the runners, volunteers, of which many children will be helping out, as well as yourself at risk.”

Road closure details

Roads in the area will be closed for part of Sunday morning. Advance warning signs are in place along the route.

Town Hall Square and Doughty Road will close from 6:30am.

All other roads on the route will close from 8am and should be back to normal by 11.45am.

If you are travelling to the race, please be aware that Abbey Walk Multi-Storey Car Park is currently closed.
