Dogma Art has recently completed a new street art piece, currently titled ‘Migration’, on Victoria Street, Grimsby.
Depicting migrating birds flying over a Cherry Blossom tree, the street art has brought even more colour to the ever changing high street.
Recent improvements include planters and living walls filled with vibrantly coloured plants adorned with plaques designed by Grimsby school children. Additionally, Riverhead Square has come into bloom, providing the perfect space for residents and visitors to sit with a coffee and chat to a friend.
Now, Dogma Art is adding his own stamp to the changes as regeneration works continue. “It’s been really good, working closely with the Council and stakeholders to try and come up with a design that works for the town.
“Everyone has been accommodating and hopefully the end result reflects that. The reception from people passing by and those involved has been nothing but positive which is great to hear.”
He added: “This isn’t graffiti, street art promotes thought and the art work is designed to be there, this complements the surroundings.”
Whilst the design itself takes a long time, the actual creation of the piece only takes a few days. “Most of the work goes into preparation,” said Dogma.
“Producing the stencils and elements takes time, but when we’re on site everything moves quite fast. This has only taken us around four or five days from start to finish.”
However, it’s more than just a picture. “It will really help the town centre and complement everything going on in the town. If we can help make Grimsby shine in any way then we'll support it.
“What's going in is great, it's been well overdue and I think what's taking place now can only be a positive in helping revive the town centre.
“With what they’ve done already, it's gorgeous down here.”
Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Economy, Devolution and Skills, said: “This art is a great example of how we’re changing this town centre for the better.
“With the planters, living walls and now this visitors are starting to notice a difference and we’re proud to involve local trades where we can on this journey.”
He added: “These projects are key to the future of our town centre – underpinning the other regeneration taking place. This includes the new Horizon Youth Zone, the Alexandra Dock housing scheme and the E-Factor Business Hub – as well as securing the future of Freshney Place and the 1,700 local jobs it supports.”
