The Hive@Healing, developed in partnership with NELC, will provide students with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) access to high-quality education, specialised support, and a structured pathway towards greater independence and future success. The provision is designed to ensure that students can learn in an inclusive environment while receiving targeted interventions tailored to their individual needs.
(Richard Briggs, CEO) of Harbour Learning Trust expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“We are thrilled to be working alongside North East Lincolnshire Council to bring this much-needed resource to our community. The Hive@Healing will enable students with SEND to thrive in a supportive, mainstream setting while receiving the tailored support they need to succeed academically and socially. This fits in with Harbour’s values and commitment to inclusivity in all of our schools.”
The Healing site has been selected due to its accessibility, existing infrastructure, and potential for further development to accommodate specialist facilities. In collaboration with NELC, planned building adaptations will ensure the site is well-equipped to meet the needs of students. Additionally, Harbour Learning Trust is working with local specialist settings, the National Autistic Society, and other experts to enhance staff training and expertise.
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education at North East Lincolnshire Council, highlighted the significance of this initiative:
“I am thrilled to be announcing this provision alongside the Harbour Learning Trust. It is going to make a significant contribution to providing specialist educational support to children in North East Lincolnshire.”
“Healing Academy have done a tremendous job in researching and gathering information from other settings on how to ensure that this provision is fit for purpose, and it is wonderful to hear that young people are already having a hand in the creation of the project.”
“It will have a lasting impact on the education landscape in North East Lincolnshire now and for years to come.”
The Hive@Healing is set to open in September 2025 to students with a period of growth over the first twelve to eighteen months. Admissions follow the national process for children with EHCPs as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice. We ask that families do not make direct contact with Healing Secondary Academy at this time, unless they have been informed of an active consultation for their child. Healing have created a dedicated webpage for parents, carers and wider stakeholders to stay informed about this project. This is available at: https://hsa.harbourlearningtrust.com.
