The Safer Roads Humber partnership returned to schools in North East Lincolnshire, East Riding, North Lincolnshire and Hull with road safety plays this year.

Year 9 students of Humberston Academy, Havelock Academy, Cleethorpes Academy and John Whitgift Academy have benefitted from these road safety plays in the borough.

The road safety play called #YOLO is delivered by Performance in Education. The aim is to help to share an important road safety message, which includes the importance of wearing a seatbelt, and being a responsible passenger and not distracting the drivers.

National research shows that seat belt wearing with this age group (14-15 year olds) drops when they are travelling in a young drivers car. The 30-minute live performance shares the important message to students in a more relatable way.

Students were then asked questions about the play including the causes and consequences of the accident and how it could have been prevented, which was then followed by a short presentation and quick questionnaire about general road safety, finishing with top tips on how to be a safe passenger in a vehicle.

North East Lincolnshire Council and its delivery partner, Equans, would like to thank Safer Roads Humber for organising these important road safety events at schools and we hope students have taken these road safety messages on board.
