North East Lincolnshire Council are warning residents of suspected scam texts from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

The texts are asking recipients to complete their application for the Winter Fuel Allowance scheme to allow payments to be processed.

The texts have given deadlines of 16th April and 21st April with the messages received the day before the deadline, stating that their applications will be closed should they not complete the application by the deadline.

Both texts ask recipients to submit claims of £200 to £300 in their application, followed by a link.

The first texts reads: “DWP Benefits Officers are in the process оf issuing winter benefits. As you have not yеt submitted аn аpрliсatiоn fоr the 2024-2025 allоwance, thе pаyment cannot be сomрleted.
