With 6,370 plants in place, a wonderful display has now come to fruition to mark the milestone. Situated along Alexandra Road, the display of bright reds, yellows and whites is sure to catch the eye of visitors during Armed Forces Weekend.
The display has taken a total of 16 weeks to grow and bloom with timing crucial to ensure the longevity of the flower bed itself. With sympathetic pruning throughout the year, it’s hoped the display will be able to last through some of the Autumn and Winter months.
VE Day in Europe marks the day Germany surrendered during World War II, effectively marking the end of the War. With this flower bed and events planned over the forthcoming weekend, North East Lincolnshire Council aim to show how important the Armed Forces are and pay their respects to those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom.
Councillor Hayden Dawkins, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Visitor Economy, said: “This is a great edition to what is already sure to be a brilliant weekend celebrating the Armed Forces in North East Lincolnshire.
“I’m so proud of what our veterans, both past and present, have done for this country and this is just one way of showing our appreciation for them.”
