Lindsey Lodge Hospice has become the latest community building to receive solar panels free of charge thanks to North Lincolnshire Community Energy supported by the Council.
The hospice joins local schools and colleges as well as Scunthorpe United, Ashby Hub, Kingfisher Lodge children’s home and North Lincolnshire Museum, who are all now reaping the benefits of cut price energy.
A share offer run by North Lincolnshire Community Energy to raise more money for the scheme has recently closed, busting its £700,000 target and including a £100,000 investment from the council.

Cycling Olympic champion and racetrack coming to Scunthorpe town centre tomorrow
Scunthorpe’s Church Square will welcome Street Velodrome, the UK’s first portable cycling racetrack, and triple Olympic medallist, Emma Finucane MBE, tomorrow, Saturday 22 March for a day of fun, competition and family-friendly entertainment.
From 10am to 3pm, the event will be open to all, offering a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to experience the thrill of competitive cycling in a safe and accessible environment.
Emma, who became the first woman to win three medals for Team GB at a single Olympic games in 60 years at Paris 2024, will be taking part in the velodrome cycling throughout the day and she will be bringing her medals with her.
Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a complete beginner, Street Velodrome provides a unique chance to enjoy the sport and have a go at racing on a professional-level track.

Celebrate George Stubbs’ connections to North Lincolnshire with your own unique horse sculpture
North Lincolnshire residents and art enthusiasts now have the chance to own a piece of local history, as a selection of stunning horse sculptures, created to celebrate the legacy of renowned artist George Stubbs, are set to be auctioned in support of a local charity.
The sculptures are part of Horsing Around, a trail across North Lincolnshire inspired by George Stubbs and his connection to the area.
Each of the sculptures have been individually created by an artist working with a school or community group. The sculpture trail was developed with the help of leading public art specialists, Wild in Art, who have worked on top projects at the London 2012 Olympics and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Food company’s tree initiative takes root in North Lincolnshire
North Lincolnshire is greener thanks to a generous donation of 500 hazel trees from Jones Food Company (JFC), owners of Europe’s largest vertical farm.
Branching out from their indoor farming work, JFC grew the trees at their Scunthorpe facility in just six weeks as part of a research and development project.
Grown to sustainable forestry standards and planted in biodegradable coconut husk, the company have now donated the trees to the council.

On Thursday 1 May, residents in North Lincolnshire will be voting to help select the first Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority (GLCCA) Mayor.
If you’re not on the Electoral Register, you will not be able to vote.
The deadline to register to vote is 11 April.

Love where you live: Celebrate the Great British Spring Clean
Residents and businesses in North Lincolnshire are encouraged to join the squad of litter heroes to help clear up litter across the county during Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean taking place from 21 March to 6 April 2025.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Great British Spring Clean and is promoting sense of pride and people power, and North Lincolnshire has been involved since the beginning with hundreds of people coming together from all communities.
Last year’s Great British Spring Clean was a great success in North Lincolnshire resulting in over 1,000 bags of rubbish being collected by more than 200 individuals.

North Lincolnshire Council’s fostering team are looking for kind and compassionate individuals to step forward to do something outstanding and make a difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs by becoming a Short Breaks + foster carer.
Short Breaks + foster care provides support to parents and carers who care for a child with additional needs or a disability by offering a short break in their own home. This may include day care, an overnight stay, or longer periods during school holidays.
