Lincs Inspire celebrates after receiving £324k of National Lottery funding to support active lifestyles

Residents living in North East Lincolnshire are being supported to find ways to stay active for their physical, social and mental wellbeing.

Lincs Inspire has been awarded £324,454 over three years from the National Lottery Community Fund to help those who are living with a long-term medical condition, disability, or age-related mobility challenges.

Eligible residents will be encouraged to access the charitable trust’s established ‘Active Forever’ programme, along with new services designed to help those most at need.

Ben Frary, Lincs Inspire’s Health Improvement Manager, said: “The physical benefits of activity when living with a health condition are profound, and the social and mental impact can be transformative. Getting out, socialising, meeting other people in similar situations and talking to our wonderful staff can’t be underestimated.

“Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to support our residents to access our ‘Active Forever’ wellness scheme – a 12-week health referral programme, which has already helped thousands of people living with health conditions to become more active.

“Regular physical activity can help those living with a health condition manage their symptoms more effectively and improve their mental wellbeing. It can lead to other benefits such as lower medication use, reduced pain, and an improved overall quality of life.

“However, we know there are barriers preventing people from taking the steps to a more active lifestyle. Therefore, we are incredibly grateful for this funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, which will be used to support and encourage those people most in need to become, and stay, active.”

A launch event to celebrate the funding, and for residents to find out more information about the support available, takes place at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre on Thursday, December 5, from 9am to 12 noon.

The Discovery Event features: a host of free taster activities; information from Lincs Inspire’s wellbeing team; and advice from a range of local health professionals. Those attending include the Respiratory Rehabilitation Service from Care Plus Group, Navigo, Age UK and Alzheimer’s Society.

Mr Frary added: “If you would like to find out more about how we can support you, please come along. Or please share the details with someone in need.”

Visitors will be warmly welcomed. They can browse the information, enjoy some refreshments and take part or watch the free taster activities, which include:

The event is open to anyone who feels they could benefit from a more active lifestyle, with grant funding helping to support the delivery of low cost programmes specifically aimed at those who are: living with and beyond cancer; struggling with their mental health; experiencing respiratory difficulties or diagnosed with cardiovascular disease.

In addition, the launch event will take the opportunity to share information on our upcoming activities designed to help mums stay active during pregnancy or after birth.
