4-week-old Jonney was not expected to live after complications that occurred during pregnancy, but thankfully he was delivered safe and sound at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in December. His mum and dad, Toni and William, registered him at Nunsthorpe Family Hub, as he became the 500th baby to be registered.

Last year, as part of the Government’s Start For Life programme, residents of North East Lincolnshire have been able to book an appointment with the registrar at 5 of the NELC Family Hubs. Originally launched in February 2024 across 4 of the settings, it was then extended to the Queensway Hub in January due to the popularity of the service.

The introduction of the scheme ensures that the process of registering your baby after birth is accessible to parents across the borough. It also gives parents the chance to meet with a professional at a Family Hub which can offer them support and guidance during their child’s early years and be a welcoming space for all of the family.

Parents Toni and William, who welcomed Jonney on the 19th December 2024, said at the time:

“This is the first child we have been able to register here, which is so much better as we only live around the corner and, with three young children, we do not have much spare time.”

“This is loads better than having to travel to Cleethorpes to register Jonney. We don’t have to worry about parking either. There are lots of services here that we use and it is nice to come here and be able to get advice.”

Deputy Registrar of Births, Alex Evans, said:

“This is our 500th birth registration at the Family Hubs. Parents have really taken to this service. They find it so much easier as for many their nearest family hub is just around the corner from them.

“Convenience is the most important thing, and we try to be as flexible as we can.”

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio holder for Children and Education at North East Lincolnshire Council said:

“How wonderful to have Jonney and his family register his birth at our Nunsthorpe Family Hub. The service has gone from strength to strength since it was introduced last year and is being utilised by families across all 5 hubs.

I wish Jonney and his family all the best and want to extend my gratitude to the registration team who are doing a fantastic job.”
