The annual civic ceremony, hosted by the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Steve Beasant, took place on Sunday at St Mary’s on the Sea Church, followed by a reception at Grimsby Town Hall.

As his mayoral year draws to a close, Councillor Beasant chose to dedicate this event to the children and young people in care. The church service provided a moment of reflection and gratitude, serving as a formal recognition and celebration of the community's leaders.

At the Town Hall, the spotlight was on the young people, with heartfelt performances from children in care. The event featured a choir made up of children, foster carers and children’s services staff and a special reading from a local young person’s story will soon be published in a book.

The Mayor said of the event, which holds personal significance for him:

“Today has been a wonderful day of celebration. It’s been great to see some of our children in care take part in what is a momentous day in my mayoral role.”

“It is important to me that foster carers get the recognition they deserve for the incredible work they do for our local community. Up and down the country, Foster Carers are needed but especially in North East Lincolnshire. I would like to encourage anyone who may think foster caring is for them, to get in touch.”
