Today, the streets of Grimsby were alive with excitement as thousands of runners and joggers participated in the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K. Among the sea of participants, vibrant pops of Fostering orange t shirts stood out, symbolising the community's heartfelt support for North East Lincolnshire’s Fostering campaign.

Tape2Tape, the event organisers, marked a decade of this incredible race with headline sponsors Ørsted. The event welcomed runners and joggers of all abilities, culminating in a joyous celebration at People’s Park.

This year, North East Lincolnshire Council’s workforce was prominently visible, both running and cheering along the route. The fostering recruitment campaign, which aims to inspire more people within the local community to consider becoming a Foster Carer for North East Lincolnshire Council. The Fostering campaign has gained significant momentum over the past year, highlighting the urgent need for more Foster Carers in the area.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, said:

“The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K is one of the most anticipated events of the year, attracting participants from near and far.

“The prominent presence of our Fostering campaign at such a major event underscores the dedication of not just the organisers but the entire community.”

Ann-Marie Matson, Director of Children’s Services, who participated in the 10th race, shared her experience:

“As a runner, I always look forward to this event, but this year was truly special.

Witnessing so many people, partners, council officers, Foster Carers, and community members proudly wearing orange was a humbling experience as I navigated the streets of the town that so many of our Children in Care call home.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to the organisers for exemplifying true corporate and community parenting and for hosting such a significant event for our town.”

Liz Meyer, a dedicated North East Lincolnshire Council Foster Carer, also took part in the event and reflected:

“This was my first time running the Great Grimsby 10K, and I’m incredibly proud to do it alongside my fellow Foster Carer, Nicki.

We both run in a local group and were inspired to sign up when we learned the event was raising awareness for the need for more Foster Carers locally.

Being a Foster Carer is so rewarding, though it can be challenging at times. Running is fantastic for my mental and physical health, and it’s wonderful to share this experience with Nicki today.

My husband and I have been fostering for 27 years, and we are really passionate about keeping local children in the place they call home. I encourage anyone who feels fostering might be for them to reach out to the team.”
