This year’s footway slurry seal treatment programme works are due to start on Monday 1st September and is expected to be completed by Wednesday 17 October, subject to weather conditions.

The footway treatment process involves laying a slurry surfacing to repair minor defects and seal the surface of the footways, protecting them against the ingress of water. It also provides an even and consistent surface free from trip hazards and extends the surface life of the footway. Slurry surfacing is a cold applied process using a mix of bitumen emulsion, selected aggregates, water and an additive to control the speed of setting.

Once laid the mix dries very quickly, and pedestrians can usually walk on it within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity. Unfortunately, these works are weather dependent, and a number of variables can also impact the programme. Therefore, while this is the planned programme, the works may be rescheduled.

To allow the works to be completed and to ensure the safety of those completing the works, a footway closure will be in place on the day between 7:30am and 6pm. Works may not take the full day to complete, depending on the length of the street, but once complete, the footway will be reopened as soon as possible.

The following streets are scheduled to be included in the programme of works:

During the closure period, every effort will be made to maintain access to properties but there may be short periods of time when this will not be possible, however access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Advanced warning signs will be erected on site by the contractor advising of these works and these signs will provide confirmation of the day the works are proposed to take place.

The council and contractor Kiely Bros would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
