Following an incident at Harbour Place on Hope Street in Grimsby last night, the facilities are currently closed.
Police officers were called out last night (21 May) after receiving reports of a man on the roof of the hostel, throwing tiles on to the street.
A significant part of the roof tiling is now missing, meaning the facilities have had to close for safety whilst the damage is assessed.
A cordon was put in place for public safety, and emergency services attended whilst officers safely resolved the situation, and a man arrested.
Harbour place provides a day centre and nine short-stay rooms for people who have been rough sleeping and brought in from the street whilst longer term provision is found. North East Lincolnshire Council provide funding for street outreach workers and night staff at the hostel.
Five short term residents at Harbour Place were evacuated to the Salvation Army facilities overnight for safety, and are currently being supported into alternative accommodation by the Council’s Homelessness Team.
Cllr Ron Shepherd, Cabinet member at NELC for communities, said: “Without Harbour Place, there isn’t any facility in the borough to help rough sleepers access the support they very much need, whether short term support in the day centre, or support to get them back into appropriate living accommodation. We will be working with Harbour Place in the coming weeks to understand what the longer term impact is whilst the facility is repaired.”
