Electronic items, cables and anything with batteries can't go in your household bins as they pose a fire risk to our vehicles and crews. They can instead go to Household Waste Recycling Centres or some shops have collection points for items.

Between March 10 and March 15 though, we’re working with Sleaford Climate Action Network to also run an E-Waste Action Week with drop-off points for your e-waste.

The week highlights the need to recycle electronic waste, through the right channels, and the environmental and practical importance of doing so.

Over the week you can bring unwanted phones, tablets, laptops and cables which will be refurbished and donated to good causes. Collection points are Sleaford and Heckington Libraries (during their opening hours), and Ruskington Methodist Church (Saturday March 15, 10am-midday).

You can also bring items to Sleaford Repair Café on Saturday March 15, 12.30-4pm, either for repair or donation. Please being repairs before 3pm if you can. There is also a cable swap here on this day. Find out more at https://www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/e-waste

Join now for hassle-free gardening this year

Green-fingered households can unlock a full year’s worth of hassle-free gardening by subscribing now to our garden waste collection service.

By signing up now you’ll enjoy the service as soon as it starts! Or if you’re already a current garden waste customer, then signing up now for 2025-26 means you’ll enjoy a smooth continuation of collections.

Subscribe at www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/gardenwaste or call on 01529 414155 to speak with the friendly garden waste team. Remember – there’s nothing to do if you’re already a garden waste customer paying by direct debit as you'll be automatically renewed for the service.

How much does it cost?

It's frozen at the same price as last year - £45 for collections of a single brown bin you already have, and £8 each for collections of additional existing brown bins (up to four bins). The cost to buy a brown bin is £47 per bin, from April 1.

What happens when I join?

You’ll receive confirmation, and then a welcome pack with a sticker and calendar will be posted to you before the start of your 2025-26 service. Your collection dates will also be added on our online ‘find my bin day’ tool.

What can I put in my brown bin?

During the past year over 34,600 households had their grass and hedge clippings, twigs, leaves, weeds, flowers and more collected from their brown bins. It’s still useful in winter too, as you can dispose of small branches and even your real Christmas tree if chopped into little pieces. See the full list of accepted garden waste on our webpage.
