The new initiative has meant that around a quarter of all births in the borough are now being attested through either the Nunsthorpe, West Marsh, East Marsh and Immingham Family Hubs.
It gives new parents an opportunity to get a face-to-face appointment with a registrar in a local setting and encourages them to look at other helpful services that are on offer in the Hubs such as support groups and baby-focussed activity groups.
Tracy Frisby, Registrars & Civic Services Team Manager said:
“It is always a pleasure to be at such an important moment of a baby’s life and it is great to see so many families take up the offer of registering the birth at the Family Hubs.
“If you’d like to register your child at one of the four Family Hubs you can book an appointment through the Council’s website.”
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio holder for Children and Education at North East Lincolnshire Council said:
“It is wonderful to hear that our Family Hubs are playing such an important role in a newborn’s life.
“To have this service available in local settings and to see it being utilised by families across the borough goes to show that this service is much needed and works for our community.”
Hubs currently providing the registration service are:
It must be noted that payment is needed at the time of booking, at a cost of £12.50 for the birth certificate. Those parents registering at the Cleethorpes office will receive a birth certificate immediately, but for those in the family hubs, the birth certificate will be sent in the post.
