The public are being asked to give their opinion on how £20 million can best be spent to help Grimsby’s future.

Grimsby Together is a project shaping the town for the better – led by those who live here, work here and believe in listening to the community.

Now, following a series of working groups with a range of opinions from 80 local leaders, teams will be feeding insights into a plan that will be submitted to Government, detailing what is to be done with some of the £20 million.

To ensure the plan reflects what the people of Grimsby want, residents are asked to attend Grimsby Central Hall on Thursday, 25 September, anytime between 3pm and 6pm.

During the event, people will be able to speak to those involved in the working groups about what they’ve discussed from housing to Grimsby’s infrastructure as well as submit their own ideas and suggestions.

Aided by Our Future – an organisation that invests itself in supporting communities to effect long-term change – working in partnership with the Greater Grimsby Board and North East Lincolnshire Council, Grimsby Together will look at how to best invest the Plan for Neighbourhoods grant funding.

The funding awarded 75 areas – one being Grimsby – a total funding pot of £1.5-billion (up to £20m for each area over 10 years) with a focus on involving communities in decision making of how and where the money should go.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economy, Regeneration, Devolution and Skills, said: “This project is about improving Grimsby and we want to make sure the people who live and work here are heard.

“This isn’t about the Council investing into what they think will be best, but what the public believe our town needs and wants.”

He added: “We have already embarked on the biggest transformation of Grimsby this Council has ever seen with the redevelopment of Freshney Place and this will only add to the brilliant work ongoing throughout the community.

“I urge anyone who can to attend the event at Central Hall and make sure they are part of what is sure to be a bright future for Grimsby.”

Emily Bolton, Co Founder and CEO of Our Future, added: “It has been inspiring to see so many people from across the town working together to shape this plan and commit to building a thriving future.

“This is all about Grimsby, and on 25 September we are excited to meet a wider group of people, share the progress so far, and hear new ideas on how this funding can support positive change the town cares about.”
