Residents across South Holland are being invited to have their say on the new name for the redeveloped Castle Sports Centre in Spalding.

The £28.3million redevelopment of the site is currently underway, to provide a modern and inclusive mix of indoor and outdoor facilities designed to support residents of all ages to live healthier, more active lives, and address current and future community health challenges in the district.

The first phase of works is due to complete later this year with the new facility opening to the public in early 2027. The project has received £20million of UK Government funding, alongside significant contribution from South Holland District Council.

As work continues, the council is asking residents to take part in a simple public vote to help select the new centre’s name, from a shortlist created in partnership with existing centre stakeholders, sports clubs and community users.

The four shortlisted names balance the long-standing identity of the existing Castle Sports Centre with options that reflect its position as a facility serving all communities in South Holland.

Residents can choose their preferred option via an online survey, which will be open until Sunday 8 February at http://www.sholland.gov.uk/namesurvey. The chosen name will be used for the new facility when it opens to the public.

The shortlist is:

Councillor Gary Taylor, South Holland District Council’s project sponsor, said: “It’s been great to see work on the redevelopment happening in recent months, and it’s important that when the site reopens it can be something the local community feel invested in and excited for.

“We want a name that reflects the ambitions and priorities of the Centre, but also that represents the everyday experience and usage of our residents. I hope that people will take the chance to have their say on this important new facility for health and wellbeing across South Holland.”
