A funeral home in Grimsby has announced the appointment of a new team to lead its services.

Matthew Bown has been appointed Funeral Director at Co-op Funeralcare Kettle on Granville Street, and will be supported by Louise Uzzell, who joins as Funeral Arranger. Together, they bring more than 15 years of experience supporting bereaved families in the area.

Matthew began his career with Co-op Funeralcare Grimsby in 2012. He was inspired to join the profession after witnessing the dignity and compassion shown to his own family following the death of his grandmother in 2009.

He started off as a funeral care operative, where he spent three years supporting bereaved families and assisting with the smooth running of funerals. After a few years away from the business, Matthew returned for a short while in 2017 and then permanently in 2025, where he took up the position of funeral director.

Matthew said: “I feel honoured to be taking up the role of funeral director here in Grimsby. Supporting families through one of the most difficult periods of their lives has always been a privilege throughout my career.

“I’ve had many highlights during my career to date, helping families give their loved ones personalised and meaningful send-offs. One highlight was an Elvis-themed funeral I assisted with, featuring two American stretched limousines, an Elvis impersonator and music throughout the service.

“I’m now looking forward to getting to know the community in Grimsby and continuing to provide compassionate, personal care to everyone we support.”

Meanwhile, Louise began her career as a funeral arranger with Co-op Funeralcare Cleethorpes in 2020, then worked across several branches across the region, including Louth, where she served as funeral director.

At Kettle, her role will involve providing compassionate, personalised support to families at every stage of the funeral arrangement process.

Louise said: “I was inspired to join the profession following the loss of several close family members. Through my own experiences of grief, I wanted to help others navigate bereavement and ensure families feel supported during difficult times.

“Now, I'm looking forward to continuing supporting families in Grimsby. I’d also like to remind all those who are going through a difficult time that we’re here to help. Our doors are always open.”
