Demolition is well underway at the western end of Freshney Place as part of the leisure scheme.

The Bullring units have now been demolished as well as much of the upper floors and frontage of the former BHS building.

With the former market hall having been taken down earlier this year, the site is now being cleared and the rubble being taken off site for crushing. Much of this will be returned to site to form some of the foundations for the new build once that starts.

The temporary result of the work is that you can see right from the Bullring directly through to Frederick Ward Way and beyond!

North East Lincolnshire Council Leader, Cllr Philip Jackson, and members of the Cabinet joined GMI on a visit to the site this week, and they were delighted with the progress so far.

“It’s a massive project for us, and for the town,” said Cllr Jackson. “The work that GMI are doing on site is fantastic. We know there is still a lot to do, but the Freshney Place leisure, food hall and market scheme will really transform this end of the town.

“There is a way to go yet, but we have anchor tenants in, and have agreed to progress legal work to secure leases with others, which we’ll announce in due course.”

Photos of the work so far are on the Council’s website for the project – visit www.nelincs.gov.uk/building-our-future and follow the links to the Freshney Place project.
