Steve Sampher’s exceptional dedication to supporting veterans won him a Civic Award 2025.

The North East Lincolnshire Council Civic Awards 2026 are now open for nominations and we are looking  to recognise the efforts of another local person who fulfils the criteria of this exceptional Veterans’  Award.

We are looking for someone who has made significant contributions to the community post-military service, and someone who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to supporting fellow veterans. We know that there are people in our community who have engaged in activities that honour and uphold the values of military service.

Despite his own challenges, including using a prosthetic leg, Steve Sampher has become a driving force in the veteran community. He works with Combat Stress, Hull FC and most importantly NEL4Heroes, providing peer support, promoting wheelchair rugby and organising fitness and social activities.

Steve’s efforts have significantly strengthened the veteran community and he is known for going above and beyond to help others.

These are the qualities that made Steve our winner in 2025. If you know someone like this who truly deserves recognition for their selfless dedication to veterans then please nominate them now for the Veterans’ Award.

You can nominate for each category online via North East Lincolnshire Council’s website. https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/your-council/mayor-and-civic-information/

If you need a paper form, please contact the Civic Office by calling 01472) 324101 or sending an e-mail to civic.office@nelincs.gov.uk

Nominations can be made until 5pm on Friday January 31st 2026.  If you submit electronically, they will be received automatically.  Alternatively, you can send via e-mail to civic.office@nelincs.gov.uk.

Full terms and conditions can be found here https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/your-council/mayor-and-civic-information/
