Lincolnshire FA is delighted to announce that Keelby United have been named the first-ever winners of the Best in Grass Award, a brand-new accolade introduced in 2025 to recognise the outstanding work of grassroots clubs in maintaining and developing their pitches.

The award was created to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of grassroots football – the volunteers and clubs who dedicate countless hours to ensuring players, coaches, and communities can enjoy the best possible playing surfaces.

After careful consideration of nominations from across the county, Keelby United were selected as the inaugural winners thanks to their tireless commitment to pitch quality, sustainability, and community impact.

A Standard Set for the Future

Keelby United impressed the judging panel with the significant improvements they have made to their playing surfaces over the past year, creating safe, high-quality pitches that benefit not only their own players but also visiting teams and the wider local community.

Their proactive approach to pitch care, combined with the dedication of their volunteer grounds team, demonstrated exactly what the Best in Grass Award was created to celebrate.

Recognising Grassroots Heroes

Speaking on the award, Nick Hanson, CEO of Lincolnshire FA, said: “The Best in Grass Award is about celebrating the people and clubs who put in the hard work behind the scenes to make grassroots football possible. Keelby United have set the bar incredibly high as our first winners, and their efforts truly embody the spirit of the game. We are proud to recognise and thank them for everything they do.”

Looking Ahead

The Best in Grass Award will now become an annual recognition, highlighting one club each year that goes above and beyond in maintaining their pitches and supporting grassroots football in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire FA would like to congratulate Keelby United once again on their achievement and thank all the volunteers across the county who give their time and energy to keeping grassroots football thriving.
