Over 100 participants from North East Lincolnshire Council and Family hubs were over the moon last week after winning an award for the best designed float at the Cleethorpes carnival.

Over time, people with the foster team have been trying to find new ways to persuade families to have the chance to become foster parents, as part of this goal they had been working together with the family hubs to design a float that would catch the eyes of many families attending the carnival across Cleethorpes.

The float, which was decorated by children, young people, their parents and carers, as well as Council officers, represented the that the local authority does with young carers, the young and safe service, the seven family hubs across North East Lincolnshire, and the fostering service.

Portfolio holder for children and education at North East Lincolnshire Council, Councillor Margaret Cracknell, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our staff across Children’s Services for the work that they do on a daily basis.

“The Cleethorpes Carnival gave our staff team, and many of our children and young people, an opportunity to get creative and that clearly paid off. I’m really pleased to see that this creativity was recognised with them winning the best designed float award!”

Director of Children’s Services, Ann-Marie Matson, added:

“This event really was a fantastic outpouring of love and celebration for our children, our foster carers, and our staff team.

“Our aim was to share information with people about how they could become foster carers, and about the fantastic activities and services on offer at our family hubs, and we definitely got that across in spades.

“Thank you to all of our staff, our parents and carers, and our young people, who attended the event and really got creative in decorating our float.

“I really enjoyed participating in the carnival and I am happy for how the float turned out, you could really tell they put a lot of effort into designing it. They deserve this award!”

As a celebration, the staff that participated in this event gathered outside New Oxford House in Grimsby for a group photo with their award.
