Harlaxton Manor opens to the public next week for “a series of splendid summer events”

“This is your chance” to enjoy a rare and up-close look at one of Lincolnshire’s most inspiring manor houses and gardens

Harlaxton Manor’s grounds and gardens will open to the public from Saturday 23rd July with a series of special events organised for the summer.

Normally closed to the public, visitors will be able to experience the magnificent grounds, beautiful formal gardens and eclectic architecture of Harlaxton Manor. The Grade I listed building’s striking Ancaster limestone exterior combines Baroque, Elizabethan and Jacobean styles, boasting a grand edifice visible for miles around.

Situated near Grantham, close to the Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire borders, Harlaxton Manor is a magnificent historic country house set within 300 acres of parkland and gardens.

The events will begin with an open house and gardens next week, with further opportunities to visit planned for August. Events include:

From Saturday 23rd to Sunday 24th July, Harlaxton Manor offers guests an immersive look inside one of the most striking historic houses in the country. The manor’s decadent staterooms and impressive interior will be accessible for guests to explore at their own leisure, with access being granted from 10am – 5pm.

The exquisite formal gardens will also be open to the public for no extra charge. Visitors can enjoy a selection of sweets, cakes, teas, and coffees beneath the towering main entrance, as well as ice cream being available for additional refreshment. The manor’s resident pianist Bill Kibby will be providing the soundtrack for the weekend, with live performances of uplifting music throughout.

From Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th August, visitors will be able to enjoy the manor’s sprawling grounds and carefully curated gardens, granting stunning views across the Vale of Belvoir. With French terraces, an Italian garden, a Dutch canal and even a 19th-century observatory, the formal gardens beside Harlaxton Manor, as well as the surrounding parkland, are open for all to explore. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnics to enjoy a quintessentially British lunch, and a selection of refreshments, including ice cream, will be available.

Events manager at Harlaxton Manor, Bethan Price said:

“I’m delighted that we’re opening up the gates and inviting visitors to enjoy the unique and timeless beauty of Harlaxton Manor for a series of splendid summer events.

“Summer really is the best time to visit as it allows guests to enjoy the sweeping vistas from our gardens, which act as the backdrop for the magnificent manor.

“Whether you’re a local, a visitor or simply an enquiring mind wanting a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into one of the UK’s most hidden gems, this is your chance.”

Throughout the year, Harlaxton Manor is home to international students from the University of Evansville, who study on-site, meaning that it is necessary to ensure the venue is closed to visitors. As a result, the manor is exclusively open on certain dates throughout the year – making this an unusual and exciting opportunity.

Entry for the Open House and Gardens in July is £15 per adult, £8.50 for children and £10 for concessions, with family tickets available for £40. Two-day tickets are also available at a discounted rate.

Entry for the Open Gardens in August is  £8 per Adult,  £5 per Child (Aged 0-16), £6 per Concession and £20 for a family (2 adults up to 3 children). With both events, advance booking is recommended, although a limited number of tickets will be available on the day.
