District Council Partnering With University Of Lincoln On Unique Pilot Programme

East Lindsey District Council is working with the University of Lincoln’s International Business School to deliver a unique outreach training programme to East Lindsey businesses.

The ‘Developing a Managerial Mindset’ programme, run in collaboration with the Rural Lincolnshire Enterprise Hub and SkillsReach, is aimed at supporting employers in the District to develop their staff’s managerial skills, enhance leadership qualities and ensure workforce resilience.

Over the course of seven workshops and two company visits, delegates will learn a range of management skills and build a network of local professional peers, preparing them for the next step in their career and potentially gain a recognised professional qualification in management and leadership.

This will be the first time the programme has been delivered outside of Lincoln and, thanks to sponsorship by East Lindsey District Council, employees of businesses in the District are able to take advantage of a discounted course fee of £800.

For an additional payment, delegates have the option to undertake a Level 3 or 5 qualification from the Chartered Institute of Management, which is delivered alongside the workshop programme meaning no further time away from the business.

East Lindsey-based Woldmarsh Producers have already seen the benefits of having a staff member complete the course. Heather Claridge, Chief Financial Officer at Woldmarsh said: “Our staff member has definitely ‘grown’ throughout this process. She is stronger and ready to take on a leadership role”

Councillor Adam Grist, Portfolio Holder for Market Towns and Rural Economy at East Lindsey District Council, said: “I’m delighted that, through our Rural Lincolnshire Enterprise Hub, we have been able to work with University of Lincoln’s International Business School to bring this management training programme to East Lindsey and the more than 4,750 businesses based here.”

Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy, Councillor Steve Kirk, added: “This is a remarkable programme which will prove hugely beneficial to the businesses and the District. As a Council we are committed to growing the area’s economy and ensuring we have a well-trained and skilled workforce.”

Emma Kinna, Executive Development Manager at the Lincoln International Business School, said: “This programme has been running in Lincoln now for two years, with three intakes a year to date and we are thrilled to bring this course closer to businesses in East Lindsey, enabling more people to take part in this practical and engaging way to develop their management skills, either for a role they are already in or a future management role. Delegates particularly value the opportunity to share experiences with other people in the group and we often hear back from employers and delegates who have made the next step into management since completing the course.”
