Tens of thousands of visitors, shoppers and commuters have helped Lincoln’s popular Park & Ride service to chalk-up a successful first year of operation.
Now Lincoln BIG is encouraging more people to take advantage of the bus service – which has so far been used by 30,000 people – particularly commuters who have the chance to tap into a great deal.
Lincoln Business Support Manager Richard Baxter said:
We are delighted with the first-year take-up of the Park & Ride Service, which is being used by a wide variety of people.
However, we are convinced that there are many more, who travel from the North and North-East of Lincoln to work in the city, who could benefit from this service, and we have a monthly deal available for those users.
The Park & Ride Service is operated by Lincoln BIG, in partnership with Stagecoach East Midlands and Waitrose, with the support of Lincoln City Council and Lincolnshire County Council.
The service works by offering free parking at Waitrose, off Nettleham Road, and bus travel into town from a stop opposite the store, to and from the city centre. The bus stops at Lincoln Cathedral and Broadgate on its way to and from the new Lincoln Central Bus Station.
Services run every 15 minutes from 6.50am on Mondays to Fridays, and 8am on Saturdays, with the last bus leaving the city centre at 6.20pm. There is no Sunday service.
Users park for free and pay £2.50 to board the service, accompanied children travel for free and concessionary bus pass holders ride for free on weekdays.
Mr Baxter said:
However, we are encouraging commuters who travel into Lincoln and who find it convenient to park at Waitrose, to use our monthly Inner Lincoln Bus Pass deal. This costs just £29, so it means that they can effectively use Park & Ride for less than a £1 a day.
I actually have a £29 pass myself, because I commute to Lincoln from Horncastle every day. I love this facility because the pick-up bus mostly arrives right on cue every fifteen minutes and it only takes eight minutes to get to Broadgate or the city’s Transport Hub.
Commuters can find out more about the scheme, which is open to people working within the Lincoln BIG (Business Improvement District) area, by visiting https://www.lincolnbig.co.uk/member-deals/lincoln-big-bus-deal.
