There will be plenty of festive fun in Spalding on Saturday 8th December, as a Christmas Celebration takes place in Hall Place and at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens.
The event will run from midday until 5pm at Hall Place and 11am to 3.45pm at Ayscoughfee, and will include a range of activities, performances and entertainment to bring the community together, as well as to promote a local Christmas shopping experience using the variety of independent and other shops and stalls on offer in Spalding.
At Ayscoughfee there will be craft-making sessions running inside the hall for a small charge. There will also be Christmas story time with Father Christmas, Garden Eye-Spy and a very special Christmas trail to explore. In the afternoon there will be the opportunity to meet Father Christmas, as well as some of his Reindeer, in the gardens to make sure he knows exactly what present you’re hoping for.
Hall Place will have street entertainment including Christmas themed stilt walkers and Circus Elves, and musical performances throughout the afternoon from Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding, Spalding Brass Band, Vibe Choir and Holbeach Town Band, who will be performing traditional Christmas carols and songs.
Father Christmas himself will close the event from around 4.30pm, when he switches on the town’s Christmas tree lights which will remain lit throughout the festive period.
The Saturday Market stalls will be up and running as normal throughout the event. A Christmas shop window display competition will also be taking place in the run-up to the event, which will be judged on Friday 7th December. The winner will receive an award which can be displayed in the shop window. All Spalding businesses are welcome to enter.
Cllr Roger Gambba-Jones, South Holland District Council portfolio holder for place said: “It will be a wonderful chance for residents of all ages from Spalding and the wider South Holland community to come together to get into the festive spirit on a fun packed day of events and activities, and maybe buy something from our regular Saturday market.
“There’s something for everyone to take part in and enjoy, as well as performances from some great local musicals acts on the day and I’m really looking forward to seeing the people of South Holland in the town enjoying themselves and really getting in to the Christmas spirit.”
