Christmas and New Year is one of North East Lincolnshire Council’s busiest times of the year as household waste bins and recycling boxes fill up quickly.
However, the revised collections can be affected by bad weather and how much waste and recycling there is to collect.
People can keep an eye on the council’s website for information and updates during any adverse weather conditions.
To help the team maintain the revised schedule, residents must present bins and boxes at the boundary of their property by 7am.
If containers are not out at the time the team visits the area, they will not be able to return until the next scheduled collection day.
Councillor Matthew Patrick, portfolio holder for environment, said: “Christmas and New Year is an extremely busy time of year, especially where waste is concerned.
“We strive to collect waste on the revised dates, but residents must work with us and make sure they leave their bins and boxes out on time, otherwise they may be missed.”
Councillor Steve Beasant, chairman of the overview and scrutiny committee, said: “People are bound to have full bins over the festive period, but one way to reduce this is by recycling as much as possible.
“If you’re struggling with your household waste bin, make sure you recycle all you can.
“If you have extra waste, then you can take it to our community recycling centres or recycle items at the “bring to” sites across the borough.”

Are you recycling all you can?
You can recycle:
- Empty household aerosols
- Metal biscuit and sweet tins
- All household plastic bottles
- Rinsed glass bottles and jars in any colours
- Paper
- Wrapping paper (that you can scrunch up into a ball and it stays scrunched up – no glitter though please!)
Hints and tips
- You can recycle your real Christmas tree at the community recycling centres. Or, if your tree has a root-ball and has been watered regularly, why not re-plant it?
- To fit more plastic bottles in your recycling box, don’t forget to wash, squash and replace the cap before putting them in
More information on what you can and can’t recycle can be found at www.nelincs.gov.uk/bins-waste-
