Saturday at Market Rasen is a big day for racecourse ambassador Sean Bowen as well as for his father Peter and brother James. Here is his latest blog…
We go to Market Rasen for Betfred Summer Plate day with great hopes of landing one or even two of the big Listed races.
My father trains Curious Carlos in the Betfred TV Summer Hurdle as well as Earthmoves and Wadswick Court in the Betfred Summer Plate.
With £85,000 in prize-money riding on the two races, at the biggest jumps meeting in Britain this summer, they would be great races to win.
I will be on board Earthmoves who won the DFDS-sponsored trial race for the Summer Plate last month at Market Rasen. He gets better every time he runs. He’s working well at home and ran excellently on his last run at the Lincolnshire track. It’s no surprise that the bookmakers fancy him in what is always a competitive race.
Ironically he was trained at my boss Paul Nicholls’ yard until he was bought out of a seller that he won at Ffos Las in April.
My brother James will likely take the ride on Wadswick Court in the same race. I have been in the saddle for most of his races in the last year – and he was just beaten earlier this month at Worcester. He should have a decent chance too.
James has ridden Curious Carlos, who goes in the Listed hurdle earlier in the afternoon, in three of his last four races and he will be on board again at Market Rasen.
The horse, who is also well fancied, is working well and was a good winner two runs ago at Cartmel. He then followed that up with a really encouraging second place at Aintree. He must have every chance of following that up with a victory on Saturday.
I am enjoying the new season and have recorded 16 winners to date. I had 79 last term, so I could have an eye on my first century by the end of the 2017/18 season in April. But I need to keep working hard. I only turn 20 in September so I have time on my side. Dad’s horses are in good form and I am busy with Paul Nicholls.
Fingers crossed the Bowen family will have something to celebrate in front of the big Lincs FM Ladies’ Day crowd on Saturday at Market Rasen!
