Visitors to The Hildreds Shopping Centre can enjoy a colourful display of hanging baskets and attractive flower containers around the centre this summer all of which have been grown with the help of food waste.
Last year The Hildreds collected all the food waste generated by tenant, The Cottage Loaf Café and composted it on site. This not only reduced the amount of waste going into landfill but it also made fantastic compost the centre could reuse to create welcoming floral displays with a helping hand from Wilko who donated all the plants.
Steve Andrews, Centre Manager Said:
Making compost from food waste has been an absolute delight and extremely rewarding, we have taken a waste product and turned it into something really useful.
I’m thrilled Wilko generously donated all the plants and flowers for the hanging baskets and containers which will bring pleasure and enjoyment to thousands of visitors to the centre throughout the summer season. With their contribution, they have helped to make the Hildreds blooming marvellous.
