Further consultation on the Pre-submission Draft Local Plan will soon be under way following a decision by Cabinet members at North East Lincolnshire Council.
At a meeting last week (Wednesday) members approved plans to carry out further consultation with people living and working in the borough and other stakeholders prior to the submission of the Local Plan for examination.
Based on the feedback received during the last round of consultation back in April, the council’s Spatial Planning Team have updated some the evidence base which supports the plan, to ensure the most up-to-date information is submitted to the Government for inspection in December.
This latest round of consultation, which starts today, Monday 3 October, and ends on Friday 28 October 2016, will give those who have already made representations the chance to review and amend their previous comments in the light of updated evidence.
The Local Development Scheme (LDS), which sets out the programme for the preparation of the plan, has also been amended. During a Cabinet meeting on 31 August members approved the new timetable which will see the plan submitted to the Secretary of State in December 2016.
Councillor David Watson, Portfolio Holder for Energy and Environment, said:
The Local Plan will set out the framework for future development and growth in a sustainable way. It has to consider a wide range of interlinking elements that combine to influence not only the quality of life but also the quality of place, including health, jobs, infrastructure and transport, environment, communities, education, recreation, facilities and services, so it is important that we get it right.
Following the Cabinet members’ decision we are now seeking views on the soundness of the plan and its legal compliance with the regulations, specifically on the basis of the additional evidence.
Up till now we’ve had a really good turnout at our consultation events and I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who has taken part so far. However, it’s important to note that this is not an opportunity to raise new representations on the Local Plan, and all previous comments received will still stand, and will be submitted for examination. Rather, this consultation provides an opportunity to review and amend those comments in the light of the updated evidence.
A copy of the Pre-submission Draft Local Plan and the updated evidence documents are available on the council’s website and Local Plan Consultation Portal.
