The great news for rock fans, live music lovers and aspiring musicians in and around Grimsby, is that Corky will be playing with his band at Yardbirds Rock Club on Wednesday 11th November, the 4th date of his seven day UK Tour! Mountain Tour!
Legendary Mountain drummer, Laurence “Corky” Laing a native of Montreal Canada, is one of the hardest hitting drummers in the history of rock music!
Mountain forged a style and sound that changed the face of rock music and the powerhouse double-drummer along with with Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi and Steve Knight gave us “Mississippi Queen”, “Nantucket Sleighride”, “Theme from an Imaginary Western” and many more; all standing the test of time.
Although best known as a longtime member of the pioneering American hard rock band Mountain and for West, Bruce & Laing, during the past couple of years Corky has been busy with Playing God: The Rock Opera – a critically acclaimed collaboration with two Finnish philosophers and amazing musicians from around the world. (www.playinggodrocks.com) In 2014 he was awarded the Bonzo Bash Legend Award (following Bill Ward, Carmine Appice and Peter Criss)
Almost a decade since he last came to the UK, about his return he says:
First of all, I’m really thrilled to return to the UK! It’s been 44 years since I first came to your lovely country, to my father’s country. That was in 1971, soon after Mountain had released Nantucket Sleighride and we were flying high. Coming back now feels like the first time. I’m just as excited. Over the years, Mountain has toured the UK a number of times and we’ve always been very warmly received.
Having played on over a hundred recordings and been a major contributing artist on numerous singles, live albums and 23 or so studio albums, this tour is all about revisiting the immortal MOUNTAIN Classics, performed by the man who co-wrote many of the hits. To honour the memory of Corky’s long time collaborator, Jack Bruce, the set will also include songs from Cream and West, Bruce & Laing. Corky is joined by Joe Venti (USA) on bass and Phil Baker (UK) on guitar.
If you need any more convincing, come and check it out for yourself.
The Rainbreakers will be stepping on stage earlier in the evening to deliver a raw sound that weaves through a range of dynamic elements, incorporating influences from rock, blues and soul music.
