BBQ for Cancer Research UK is an exciting fundraising campaign which calls on supporters to host a BBQ any time this July, or join in the sizzling ‘Big BBQ Weekend’ on 11-12 July.

Every hour, around 3 people are diagnosed with cancer in the region*. And that’s why the charity is calling on people to join a nation of BBQ’ers getting fired up in the fight against cancer.

BBQ hosts are encouraged to invite their friends and family to make a donation to attend, to raise money to help beat cancer sooner. The charity is urging people across the region to sign up for their free fundraising pack now so that they can show cancer who’s the BBQ boss.

Danielle Glavin, Cancer Research UK spokesperson, said: “BBQ for Cancer Research UK took place for the first time last year and it was fantastic to see BBQ heroes cook up some cash for a crucial cause.

“We want this year to be bigger and better. So we’re calling on supporters to rally their friends, family, work colleagues and neighbours to pick up their BBQ prongs and get involved.

We know that people folk love any excuse to cook up a storm, so there’s no better time to join forces with fellow BBQ’ers right across the UK and turn up the heat on cancer.

Our aim is that one day everyone will beat this devastating disease and the more research we fund, the sooner that day will come. So whether you’re king of the coals or queen of the quiche, by serving up a sizzling fundraising success this summer, you’ll be helping to beat cancer sooner.

Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding for its research but with help from the people of Lincolnshire the charity is fighting the disease on all fronts.

Cancer Research UK’s BBQ pack contains everything supporters need to plan their perfect BBQ, including recipe ideas, top tips, decorations, posters and much more. Event hosts can simply collect donations upfront from friends and family or on the day of their BBQ.

Danielle Glavin added:

Whether you’re BBQ’ing for five or 50 people, every pound donated will help us to fund life-saving research to beat 200 types of cancer. We’re calling on men and women across Lincolnshire to gear up for the ultimate foodie fundraiser and become boss of the BBQ for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. Thanks to advances in research, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
